Every rating on EloTiers traces back to a match that actually happened on a server. A connected server is one that submits those results through an authenticated integration, which is what turns gameplay into ranking data.
Without connected servers there is nothing to rank. This is also why a profile can be empty: the player exists, but no server that records results has seen them play.
A server operator receives an API key that identifies their server to EloTiers. The server reports match outcomes as they complete - who played, which kit, and the result. EloTiers validates the submission against the key, updates the relevant per-kit ratings, and attributes the match to that server on the players' profiles.
Because results are attributed, you can see on any profile which servers a player actually competes on. That context matters: a rating built entirely on one server means something different from one spread across several.
Keys are per-server and can be revoked. Submissions that show the signature of manipulation - impossible result rates, repeated matches between the same pair, results inconsistent with normal play - are investigated, and ratings derived from them can be reset.
Server operators are responsible for the integrity of what their server submits. An integration that repeatedly produces manipulated results loses access.
Server operators interested in submitting results can get in touch through the EloTiers Discord server. The public API documentation covers the endpoints involved and the shape of a match submission.
